The community of Willowdale has a long and interesting history. Settlement of the area first happened in the early 1800s. The land initially belonged to an American man named Jacob Cummer who had immigrated to Canada. Cummer was an accomplished businessman. He was known throughout the community as the owner of a local mill and tinsmith shop as well as a doctor and veterinarian. In the earliest years of development, the community was named after this influential man. The name Willowdale came later and was inspired by the many willow trees that grew in the area. The first recorded usage of this name occurred when the post office was given the name “Willowdale.”
It wasn’t until the 1920s that land was subdivided and residential development began in this area. The homes that were originally built in this area were simple single- and two-story family homes. Today, this area has appreciated tremendously, and these homes can sell for upwards of a million dollars. Builders in this area are eager to buy old homes and replace them with new construction that is more desirable. Some of the most luxurious new homes in this community are selling for a few million dollars.
Many of the new homes in Willowdale are quite large. In fact, Willowdale received some recognition for being the place where “monster” homes were being built. These exceptionally spacious homes are ideal for larger families or those who love to entertain. Near to all kinds of amenities, it is easy to understand the appeal of these decadent homes.
The Willowdale real estate market is more than just luxury homes. Today, the Willowdale real estate market has something to offer all kinds of buyers. Whether you are searching for a one-bedroom apartment building that is perfect for a working individual or you are searching for a family-friendly house, you will find options to suit your needs.
